Scripture:
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
-Philippians 3:13-14
Encouragement:
The Bible is full of passages that tell us that God is always working to bring about new life and growth in us. It’s important to remember though that it’s not just God’s job to bring about this change – we have to do our part as well. Just like the trees let go of their old leaves in autumn to make room for new growth in the spring, we too must be willing to let go of things that may be holding us back from fully experiencing all that God has in store for us.
This can be a difficult process as it may involve letting go of old habits, relationships, or even beliefs that no longer serve us. But to fully embrace the new things God is trying to bring into our lives, we must be willing to let go and make room for them. We all love the idea of new beginnings and thoughts of what could be, but often times fear and doubt hold us back from making the necessary changes to really allow for growth in our lives.
Paul encouraged us in precisely this situation in today’s verse.Just as he made up his mind to let go of the past and focus on all that was ahead – we can adopt this same mindset – being willing to let go of old things and make room for all God wants to do in and through us!
Take some time today to reflect on what may be holding you back from fully embracing all God has in store for you. Then, pray and ask Him for the strength and courage to let go and make room for His new plans in your life.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for all that you have in store for me. Help me to recognize the things in my life that are no longer a part of what you have planned, and to be willing to let go of them so that I can fully embrace all that You want to do in my life. Give me strength and courage as I face my fears and doubts, knowing that You are with me every step of the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
